When did you open Kumba Lodge and what inspired you to do so?
October 2021 - we wanted to create a beach lodge and yoga centre for conscious adventurers.
What do you love most about Kumba Lodge?
The transformation that happens when guests immerse themselves in nature, healthy food, rest, movement and community.
What has been the most rewarding part of opening Kumba Lodge?
The most rewarding part has been to see the staff grow with us from small beginnings to a strong, dedicated and kind team of incredible people.
What has been your biggest challenge and how have you overcome this?
To accept that a lodge is never finished, it is an ever changing and evolving entity which is made better with continuous maintenance, upgrades and changes.
Tell us about your team (how you built the team/what you love most)
Our team mostly found us, we opened at the end of the pandemic lockdown period and many people were at home without a job. We all grew together, coming out of a difficult period to the thriving community the lodge is today. As owners we take good care of the staff, and in turn they take care of our guests

Why is Mozambique a great place to visit?
Mozambique is a true undiscovered gem, if you are an adventurous traveller with a love of nature, beaches, wildlife and local culture then you will have an unforgettable time here. Our small village of Tofo is a paradise for whale watching, surfing, diving and much more - plus the most friendly and kind people you will ever meet.
What would your advice be for anyone thinking about starting their own tourism business?
Do what you love, in a place that you love, and you will attract the right visitors to you.
