When did you open Atitlan Sunset Lodge and what inspired you to do so?
It started 10 years ago, as I wanted to share my deep appreciation for the beauty of the lake with others.
What do you love most about Atitlan Sunset Lodge?
Of course, the sunsets! And that it's in a safe, quiet environment and, because they are self-catered apartments, people can experience real life on the lake.
What has been the most rewarding part of opening Atitlan Sunset Lodge?
To meet people from all around the world and see how they get seduced by the magic of the place.
What has been your biggest challenge and how have you overcome this?
To get people to understand that we are remote, you can only access us by boat, and not everything works the same as in a city. It is normal to have bugs in nature!
Tell us about your team!
My team is composed of Maria, the house lady - she is a local Kakchikel lady who comes everyday and has been in the hospitality business for many years. There's also Domingo the gardener, who is also Kakchikel, from the village of Santa Cruz nearby, and Andres, our young promising vegan chef who is also Kakchikel from the village.
How has Tab helped Atitlan Sunset Lodge?
Tab has removed the need to handle cash and allows guests to access services that were not possible before. It's also extended our means of collecting bills.
What is your favourite feature that Tab offers? Why?
The ability for guests to pre-book with Tab, using Advance Bookings, gives security and trust.
Why would you recommend Tab to another business?
Because it allows the process of charging to take place online, and it gives a high level of security for both end users.
Why is Lake Atitlan a great place to visit?
Because it is the most beautiful lake in the world, surrounded by majestic volcanoes, and immersed into living Mayan culture.
What would your advice be for anyone thinking about starting their own tourism business?
Put yourself in the shoes of your customers, and know what your customers want!
