When did you open Samloem Laguna Resort and what inspired you to do so?
The resort building was started on Sep 25, 2015. First rooms were opened on August 2016. The inspiration was the beauty of Saracen Bay. I choose a location which is little bit off the beat, with the small beach and mountain at the back. Our rooms are located on the ascending mountain side providing view of the Saracen Bay.
What do you love most about Samloem Laguna Resort?
We are completely off the grid, producing our own electricity (solar with generator backup) and water. Our life here is simple and stress free. Motorbikes and daily commutes are history. Due to our location and that we left big trees untouched we virtually do not need air conditioning. The breeze from the sea provides cool. Rainy part of the year we enjoy the sound of mountain streams.
What has been your biggest challenge and how have you overcome this?
It is hard to operate and build on the island. Most things have to be done via manual labor and transported by ship. We meet the challenges by careful planning and doubling up on things which we know will be needed. Our motto here is press ON.
Tell us about your team!
The operational team is a mix of locals and expats. Each person is evaluated based on their skills and personality. Everyone has to contribute and get along with the rest.
How has Tab helped Samloem Laguna Resort?
We use the Tab credit card charging features. It has cut down on the costs, extra equipment and security. Prior to Tab we had problems with chargebacks, which now have been eliminated.
Why would you recommend Tab to another business?
The ease of enrolment, professional and responsive staff.
Why is Koh Rong Samloem a great place to visit?
It is unique as the development here is still in infancy and you can experience natural environment. Beaches are nice. Exploring the island is interesting.
